Lighting for IM Fusion 20 PENINSULA

So I am looking at getting an IM Fusion 20 Peninsula. I want the lighting to be mounted on the overflow/filtration end of the aquarium and keep all of my equipment there, leaving 3 sides of the tank untouched by cords and powerheads and light mounting brackets!

My issue is, I can't seem to find a good solution to light this tank. I want something slim looking (no black box LEDS) that mounts on the end near the filter and protrudes over the rest of the tank. It needs to light an area that is around 12" x 27"..

The AI Prime would be my first choice but I'm not sure that it's mounting bracket would allow the light to be in the center of the 27" of length.

The Current Orbit Marine LED is perfect size and shape and they even have a mount that allows it to stick out over the tank exactly how i want it to. My only issue with this is that I want to keep BTA's and I want the best for my BTA's. I'm worried the Current Orbit wouldn't provide enough light for them to thrive. (If anyone is growing BTA's under this light successfully please let me know)

The last option is a Kessil a80 or a160we with the goose neck. This option seems like it may work best.. would the a80 or a160we be enough to cover the 12" x 27"?

For those of you with the IM 20 Peninsula, what do you light your tank with and how did you mount it?

For that 27" length, the A160 would be a good as it can cover a 24" area, but i'd be concerned about the spillover on the sides being only 12" wide. If you did do the current orbit marine, make sure it's the Pro version. That should have the power to handle anemones and SPS corals.

Aesthetically pleasing. Some people are more sensitive to that. Me personally I love it

I have a peninsula 20 with 2x Kessil a80 over it. I tried running it with one but the last 6 inches of the tank was dark so I had to add another. It’s an excellent light that can definitely light a BTA but mounting like you want will be an issue. The only way I can think of to do what you’re looking for is to build something.

I was in a similar situation when looking at my first nano reef tank, I wanted the water volume that the 20g has but had difficulties with a single solid light source. Most recommend 2 kessil or 2 ai prime but that ruins the peninsula aesthetics. Going with a kessil 360 or a xr15 will have a bunch of light spillage in the front or back because those lights cover 24x24. Personally I think a "strip" light would be best option. Current marine pro being the stand out of those styles of lights. I personally decided to go with the 14g peninsula and just a kessil 160. That lighting set up may still work with a softy only tank with the 20g, but I hate to be limited with what I put in a tank. Good luck with your tank!

I bet the current loop led can handle most corals. You could also supplement with a t5 retro and keep it all pretty slim and streamline

do you know the pur/par reading for that light? I am in the same boat as the OP. thinking about this tank as a RFA, shroom mabybe a BTA tank. so I would like options to add what ever but want that slim look to as it would be a couch nano.

I don’t but the picture you posted is the Current Loop Pro. You can lookup the specs and people’s results.
My guess is it’ll grow anything except SPS well.

You'll have to do your research on what anemones need... but here is what the current lights can produce

I've had an RBTA under an Orbit Marine Pro for a full two years now. Split once about 6 months after I got it (so technically I have 2 RBTAs under it.) I have it on custom Oceanbox Design risers. I am looking for something with a little more spectrum control now so I might be switching to two AI Prime HD.

My only issue with the AI Hydra 32 mounted on a Peninsula 20 is spread. The rigid mounting arm only gives strong lighting to the half of the tank closest to the overflow. I'm currently trying to figure out how to mount it in the middle of the tank without having to take off the lid. Any thoughts?

I did buy the AI Hydra 32 and yes it is not enough spread. I ended up using reefbreeders photon V2 24" and it is the best if you are running corals on this tank. Hanging is the only mounting option as the factory legs are unsightly lol.

Beautiful! I think the only solution for me to center the light requires removing the tank lid. Right now it's fine, but I'm planning to change my aquascape soon and might need to shift the light then. Thanks for the tip!
