Hello folks!
So I have recently started up a 300g system and am slowly moving all the contents from my smaller tanks over to this one. Right now, my ATI T5/LED is sitting above a 75g with all my corals waiting to transfer. Eventually, once I've placed all the corals, the ATI light will be transferred over to the bigger tank.
In the meantime, I've purchased most of the fish on my list and I'm left with a wall of QT tanks, most of which will be decommissioned. I am planning to keep one up and running for hospitalizing fish and another for QT'ing corals once the main light has moved down to the DT.
I have a mixed reef and I'm wondering if one of those Chinese black box lights would suffice during the 3-month QT period? I've never owned one, so I don't know if they really work.
Essentially I'm looking for an inexpensive lighting solution for the QT tank and am looking for suggestions. I do worry about acclimating corals to LED lighting only to switch them to a tank that relies mostly on T5. I may eventually upgrade to Radions for the new DT, but so far, I've been really happy with my T5/LED hybrid.
Are there any "cheap" T5 solutions out there? Has anyone tried these retro T5 kits? How well do they work/hold up? Or would I really just be better off with a Chinese blackbox or a 1-light radion?
