Ok I just signed up here however been in the hobby for a few yrs now. I currently run a AIO IM 50 lagoon SPS dominant. I currently have an ap700 on it. My question is If i sell my current IM and setup the 525 XL and I get another ap700 will two of these lights cover the tank?

it will be SPS dominant. seems like the tank is 59" in length.

Ive tried searching for it and couldnt find the answer I was looking for. Thats why Im asking .Thanks.

Welcome to R2R!

Two Ap700s would be more than enough for that tank :)

The recommended spread for an AP700 SPS dominant is 36" so you'd want to get a second one

Thank you. Any recommendations on a skimmer for this?

Good, but overkill, I'd think.

Seems like a better bet would be a couple of 360's or 160's to supplement the ends. I'd check with Kessil to see if they have a recommendation.

I'm a fan of the Reef Octopus skimmers, the 150 would be fine for this set up, just measure your sump and look at the footprint dimensions online to make sure she'll fit :)

Welcome to R2R, the best reefing forum on the intarwebs.

2 Ap700s? - oh yeah, that'll more than cover it.

I run a Nyos 160 on my 525XL. Only skimmer I've ever owned, no complaints.

Thanks everyone

Either of these if you'll have a sump:

Have you looked at this thread - show off and discuss your red sea reefer?

There is a lot of good info in there about how people have their reefers set up.

Welcome to R2R!

For a skimmer, I use a Curve 7 in mine. It does the job well enough (a bit oversized, really) and no need for a stand or the like in the default 525xl sump. Plenty of room in the sump to move it about to make room for other gear as needed.

My sump will be a trigger ruby 30 the skimmer section is 11x13.5

I have 2 60in. tanks. One has 2 ap700's because it has mostly sps. The other tank has 1 ap700 and 2 360's. It has mostly soft coral and lps. Begin your intensity low 40% and work up. I killed and or burnt a number of sps at 75-80% intensity. Either of these arrangements will provide more than enough light.
