Lighting for refugium/what to put in?

Well there is a red spectrum and then there's the bulb I use. Mine have like 8 blue 8 white and 2 red. Or something like that. I haven't used them for plants. Just chaeto. Now it grows out of control haha
That's awesome. Yea trying this par 38 see if it will save my cheato. My tank is a little cloudy right now otherwise I would take a picture. But I think it's dieing. Pieces are falling off of it and some parts are white and brown. Still a tennis ball size. So I don't know we will see.

What are the nitrate and phosphate levels? Any medicine in the water? Copper kills plants

20 Gal Fuge running a 140watt LED grow light. Just started. Live sand is next.

Haven't checked lvls yet. I just put a skimmer up so I'm checking tomorrow when the skimmers gets a nice run

Wow, that is awesome. I had chato but got rid of it cause it never grew. Now I have mangroves only but still have nitrates problems. Also just using regular bulbs with clamp from Home Depot. My problem was the cyano that grow when I left my light on 24/7......I'll see if I try chato again would loveeeeee to get rid of nitrates

I cycle my light. Turn on when I get up and turn off when sun goes down like the world.

This is the bulb I use and it works great.

I have this exact bulb with plastic clip on light. My chaeto looked brown like it was dying for the first 2 weeks and then it took off. Tripled within 2 months.
I run it from 12am-3pm.

Nice !!!!!!

Where did you get the bulbs and plastic clip on light from?
(I like that idea of the plastic clip on light since it shouldn't be affected by the salt.)

The Chaetomorpha I got from @915MANG in January/February has started to take off!

I am using the CREE 5000k LED Bulb over my refugium with a small lamp clamp both of these from Home Depot. Intially I removed the shroud from the socket, this turned out to be a bad idea. With such a small sump (Eshopps Cube Sump) the light was hitting my skimmer.

Thats some Pretty cool progress Brother!

I got a great deal on a Kessil A160W that can shift from 6500K to 9000K and my macro is going gang busters. As mentioned, putting some iron helps allot because with all you have in your sump it is going to remove allot of the nutrients that they need to grow. Good luck and let us know how you go. We can always learn new things from other reefers and their setups.:)
