So what has everyone used for the custom lights that build there own rack? I’m looking to make a light rack and want to get some suggestions. Thanks!

Hey chief... are you looking for input on a rack only or on a hood or on both?

I used 8020.net extremely sturdy and can hold a lot of weight.

Thanks for the ideas. Decided to go with a hybrid fixture. Actually ended up being cheaper and easier to work with.

Some people use extended wall brackets, while others use PVC.
My last tank had a full length 2X4" with both ends on a 1 1/2" dowel. The dowel was 14" and had holes drilled every inch and 1/2 to lower or elevate the 2X4" help by a cotter pin.
Red Sea Rail Kit has proven to be very universal as is electrical channel rail (pic below)

It sounds like you've already made up you mind, but I'll still share what I did. My light racks are made from very inexpensive fir strips from HD, where I ripped them and then screw and glue to make it into an L shape. The L makes for a very sturdy bracket. The lights are attached and now I can rest this rack of lights on my open top canopy. Pictures will hopefully make this a little clearer.

Here are two light racks leaning against the wall. Each rack holds three fixtures. I'm able to switch my lights out in less than five minutes (I'm a backup fanatic).

And here is one of those racks resting in the top of my canopy....looking down the length of the rack where you can see the "L"

Awesome thanks again for the ideas and pictures to show. I do like all of these options and if I decide to change I will definitely consider each one! I ended up with an aquatic life hybrid fixture. Fits great and look super clean.
