Decided to start a new post from the old one! Now its an emergency cause my freaking light went out on one side -.-

Anyway I hate to spend the money but I really do love my red sea 90 lights on my 70. That being said probably need 3 at 375ish each… OUCH.

The red sea 50 light is about 250 each. More in a price range for me. So my 90s on my other tank are SO BRIGHT and neither the blue or white are about 50% (actually both are way lower than that).

So this brings me to my question: can I get away with 3 of the 50’s for my 6 foot tank? Not really a science or math person so the explanations and graphs for the lighting are just confusing honestly. My understanding of the difference with the lights is the distance they cover and the intensity. Please correct me if Im wrong!!! So with me understanding it that way I reason that because I dont use my 90’s to full brightness I should be able to use the 50’s and get the coverage and stuff I need having 3 of them evenly across the tank.

Please help lol lighting is so not my forte.

I attached my tank below. And I know the type of corals is important for lighting too. Im newer to corals so Im trying any that I think are pretty and based on research I think I can help thrive! So if that helps Im not a SPS or LPS or any specific kind of tank, its all mixed at the moment.

Judging by your picture unless what I’m seeing is a light strip lying on top of the tank , I don’t see your lighting in view so my answer to you would be imo you could probably get away with the 50’s if you lower your lights closer to the tank say around 10 -12 inches above . I’m not seeing sps coral . If you do get them in the future just make sure you acclimate them under the lights near the top and it helps to rent a par meter so that your aware of what par you have at all spots in your tank .

Gotcha! Where do you find one of those? And yes this light is a cheap lay on top of the tank with tiny rods to prop it up off the lid. Its the light that the guy had for this tank before I bought it from him.

Is your heart set on Red Sea lights? I ask because there are a lot of better lights out there. I run 3 reefi-lab uno 2.0 lights on top of an 8foot long 2foot wide tank 30 inches deep. Softy dominate with some lps. Might be worth researching into, I feel that the reefi is the best light available right now, at 277 watts they are more powerful than any other light and run about half the price of Radion xr30 g6 or Orphek Atlantik Icon, or Neptune Sky leds.

Something to research maybe...good luck
