Hi all ,

I recently moved and set up a new tank! I know exciting, but I unfortunately am not able to use my old aquarium light mounts as the rim on the new tank is about 1.5inches. Could anyone offer what I should do to hang or what mount I could buy to hold the lights?
The lights in question are 5 orphek or3 90 bars. Not too sure on what to do lol

Only thing I can come up with it is
x2 aquatic life $140
And orphek fixing bracket 90$
This seems like too much for just getting light mounts but it may be my only option

Appreciate the help , I’m down a rabbit hole even looking at towel racks lol , they are 36inches each and each weigh about 5lbs
I'd have to see how they are situated over the tank, but I'd probably be using aluminum bar stock, drilled to accept the light bars, and conduit from the back.

This is how I had them prior , not sure if it helps new tank is a foot longer

This is the tank the rim is thicker than the old , it’s about 1.5” which doesn’t allow the lights mount to be mounted on the rim due to being just a little too wide , the mount is the one I currently own

Is there something I can put behind the tank to use the mounts on ? I’d rather not have to drill anything

I'm using the 40B here as an example.

Does your new tank have the same design rim?

If so, you can cut out the lip area that I'm pointing to, wide enough for the mounts. Just the lip, which should give you 1/2"

Yes I think that could work!! Didn’t kno if I could lol , what tool would you recommend to cut ?

Oh Buddy, It will work, I've done it to make the Red Sea lights fit on the 40b backup.

This is the right tool for the job. Oscillating. Cut-off tool with the plastic cutting blade. You can source a cheap version of this tool from harbor freight. I would advise against that honestly. In my opinion, this is a game changer tool and something every homeowner or DIY inclined person, should own. I'm at DeWalt guy and Love Milwaukee but choose your tool brand and they have one of these tools You could also use a Dremel with a large wheel,

Give me a ring if you want to talk through it.
