I am looking to light a 90gal without breaking the bank. Thinking about diy t5 fixture mounted inside the canopy? Has anyone done this or have any other options??

Yes, Many times...
LED? many here will chime in on black box experience. I have none but its a option

T5, yeah I can help. Many retrofit option incl dimmable. You will need to prep the intended canopy or fixture.
I’ll repost if you decide T5

I think I want to do T5, I’ve been in the hobby since like 2014, and led has always been the go to with this new tank i want to do something different

Hybrid. I was stalled growth and color wise until I took the chance. You’re going to appreciate the ability to grow anything without compromising aesthetics. You don’t have to go crazy buying the latest or greatest, just something you can run T5s off of and some decent leds.
