I currently have a LED light on my reef system. All the corals are doing great expect for one coral. I can't figure out what's wrong with it. All the levels in the tank are good. Anyway back to the light question. I'm soon going to be getting a new light that's much stronger then my led light and was wondering how I could slowly get my corals adjusted to the new light. As a side note I don't currently know the brand of my new light.

Will the new light be dimmable? Will you be able to adjust the distance from the light to the water?
Do you have or have access to a lux or PAR meter?
And finally have you searched within the reef2reef database for related topics and discussions? There are several great threads on this topic no matter what type of lighting you'll be using!

+ 1 on all questions posed above. You have to acclimate your corals to lighting changes. You're eye cannot pickup the intensity of the varied lighting. What might look the same is misleading because of the LED more focused beam. You have to do this like you would a new fish. Slowly acclimated over a period of time.

All I know about the light is that it has a timer built into in that turn the light on and off and it does have different light phases on it. It won't be easy for me to adjust the height of the new light as its quite big. And what's a lux or PAR meter? I new to the whole
Lighting subject and all. I haven't looked around for other threads related to this one.

I suggest doing some reading. Can you please post a pic so we know what light you're dealing with. Maybe we can offer some insights

Frogman_reefer- about how long would you suggest running my new light so the corals can adjust and all.

A lux measures light intensity How bright.. Very easy to use. lux meter is cheap. $15 on amazon. measure intensity just over the water of the old light. Once the new light is set. Use the dimmer to match the intensity.

Set the new light to cover the entire surface of the tank as best you can.

I can post a picture of my current light but my new light is on another state currently so I won't be able to take a picture of it until in comes in March. image.jpg image.jpg

Fluval is my LED light brand. There is no buttons other then the one to turn it on and off.

Wow, that stinks! In that case, find some screen from Lowes or HD and drape it over your tank to help dim the light. Slowly remove layers to help them adjust.
