I have a Truvu acrylic aquarium. They use a solid top for rigidity and prevent bowing of the tank. It has two large openings with removable covers. I'm using two Radion XR30 pro3 lights. Will these shine properly through those clear acrylic covers or should I use an egg crate or some type of netting covering the tank openings.

You can cover them with nets but you shouldn't cover with solid panels like acrylic or glass.
The tank needs to breathe!!
Transparent nets are the best. You can make a frame with stainless steel wire or aluminum frames for window's mosquito screens and apply a transparent net like the ones for fishing or the ones they sell at BRS (if I'm not mistaken).
Good luck!
Grandis.

I agree with the above.
I bought the kit from BRS, turned out well.
block little to no light

BRS did a video on screen tops to par loss. They found only 5% par loss with their screen tops. Not a big deal, imo.

How do you like the truvu aquarium? I couldn't tell in their pictures how large the openings were. Are they big enough for larger rock to fit through and for aquascaping?

The holes will be a little tight when I start aquascaping. I did get some large Pukani from BRS though. I will measure and post the size of the openings when I get home.

Yea. It's fine. I've had kids on my tanks for a long time. There's some light loss Esp when it dirty. But it is on a dimmer so...

And yea the nets nice. I'm making acrylic lids with holes for netting for the summer months.

May I ask why a cover is needed? I admittedly have never had any cover but I know for livestock prone to jumping one is necessary. Without that concern, can no cover obstructing light be an option?

Yea. Either. I don't like that much evaporation sometimes. Plus in the winter the acrylic is an insulator.
Summer I have cooling fans for temp.
