I want to buy Ecoray 112w lights for my refuguim and DT---I hear they are made for deep tanks--Refuguim is only 18 deep and DT is 22--is this a problem--any thoughts ?

Sounds like a little overkill. What's wrong with a shop light from home depot?

Are you kidding --or serious---If you are serious, What do you do---I am open for advice ?

I think he was just referring to your refuguim but If you wanna go with LEDs cheap I would go with Reef Breeder they are a sponsor here and the seem to have so great fixtures and they just released a cool refugium light that I am gonna be getting

I run my refugium with a clip on light from walmart. I used to have PC lighting over the top, but I feel like the clip on light is more convenient, much cheaper, and I get the same results.

Thanks-GeoHawk--I will definatly look into Lights at Lowes--!
The CF bulbs (new curly ones that fit into a standard fixture) use less electricity and burn cooler than the old style bulbs. Most that you will find are "soft white" which is 5500K. I believe the "daylight" bulbs (6500K) are better for a refugium or even growing low light corals. They are harder to find but available at any discount store you buy bulbs at, just look for "daylight" not "soft white" and read the fine print that says 6500K. They are the same price but will be off to the side instead of with the big display of bulbs.

5k is ideal for fuge. The cfl daylight is right around that.
Get a 23-26w light. 120w equivalent.
R40 style is preferred so the bulb is protected from splashing.
