Spent the last few years doing fresh water planted tanks and finally got convinced to start into the realm of saltwater. I was wondering what someone might recommend for a 40B without breaking the bank. If there is a sticky on this already please excuse my forum searching skills...they suck

Well it really depends on your vision of your tank. Do you want a fish only, softy, or lps/sps? Answer that and i can head you in the right direction.

I think i am just looking at some fish, lps/softy SPS would be cool but those are on the higher end of maintenance and upkeep correct?

sps just require stable parameters. If i can master that you can keep sps. For softy and lps t5 high output are nice leds are good but a little expensive metal halides are my favorite personally. All the ones i mentioned will give you enough light and more incase you ever want to explore corals that need more light. If you know where to look you can get good deals. Personally i would get a halide pendent with lumateck adjustable ballast.

If you were to choice those leds i would say get 2, but you should be ok with them since your tank is shallow.

Would the ocean revive artic S026 be a more effective light? Or would i still need two of those as well?

i run 1 t247 over my frag hung 12" above tank works fine 30% white 70% blue

Hey I was wondering if a 150watt metal halide and a current USA marine led system are too much for a 29 gallon biocube

your going to run into heat issues with the metal halide on a tank that small. Your best options in my opinion are t5 or leds

Yes you could try running fans over the water surface or get a chiller if you wanna go that route. Seems like extra work to me why so set on halides?

If you think about it though the money your saving on the light will be used to buy things to cool the tank down. Look up jbj unibody 54 watt and tell me what you think
