I was told to keep my lights on for 8 hours, I was wondering does this mean 8 hours on 8 off then on again? or does that mean 8 hours on 16 of?

Science on this is that photosynthesis in the zooxanthellae in our corals only use about 4-6 hours of light and then shut down the process of photosynthesis, which is why we light our corals. Any light after 6 hours is more about you wanting to look at your tank than about what your corals need, which is perfectly OK. Doing 8 on and 16 off is fine. But at some point too much light (as in too long of an exposure) does start to cause harm. Mid summer at the reef only gets about 6-8 hours of bright, direct sunlight. Morning and evening sunlight is at too much of an angle to be useful.

Some people like & believe in the dawn to dusk effect. I'm one :) hence why my blues only come on first (dawn) Then 1hr later the whites. Then 8hrs later whites off but the blues remain on for 1hr (dusk) Then the lunars come on for 3hrs, my night time viewing pleasure :)
Total actual time my tank is light, 10hrs. Works great for me & my live stock.

well the lights that I'm running right now are kessel a150w ocean blues led and they cannot be dimmed or time to slowly come on when they are on they are on. so I'm wondering if 8 hours is enough or too much? I wanted these lights because of the cool color they give of it really makes colors pop. I'm just not entirely sure how my lighting schedule should work
