My understanding is that 8-10 hours a day is a good amount of time to have the lights on your reef tank. My question is, can that time be split into two segments? I.e. lights on for 4 hours, then off for 5 hours then back on again for 4-6 hours? Is this a problem? Will it mess up the corals and their daily cycles?

I've always just left the lights on for one long period, but a split schedule would allow me to enjoy the reef more with the lights on.

Thank you for the link. Very interesting! Not really interested in trying it to increase coral growth. Mainly wanted to make sure it wouldn't be detrimental, and from that discussion, I can try it with less concern. Thank you!
