As I have mentioned previously, I am in the planning stages of a new build.

I'm thinking about going bare bottom so that I can mount lights under the tank.

Other than what I think will be a very cool look of light washing up from under the tank, would corals benefit?

Thanks,
Dom

Are you talking you're going to have lights from underneath and above the tank? That would be interesting to see.

Exactly...

I'm not suggesting that I would mount lights on the bottom INSTEAD of the top. I'm saying in addition to lights on the top.

I think it would look cool and wondering if there would be any other benefit other than aesthetics. Of course, this would require a bare bottom and I'm not sure how I feel about a setup without substrate.

It would defintely be interesting to see. I don't know that the corals would benefit much, maybe soft corals that are on the sides of the rock, but any corals mounted to the top of the rock the light from underneath will get blocked by your rockwork.
