I can't seem to make a lighting decision for the new tank I have arriving next month. The area I need to cover is 36Lx16Wx13"H

I currently have a Kessil A360X, so I could add another, or sell and do something else entirely.

I tend to like a spectrum that is a bit more blue. My corals are generally almost all LPS, with lots of meaty types on the sandbed.

Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

Thanks... that's the way I'm leaning right now. I figure if one light goes out, I can get by with just the other until a replacement arrives.

I've had a light blow with no backup before and it was not fun!

Add additional kessil, or if youre looking for something different:

Ai Hydra 26 or 32

Orphek OR3-90 ( sky blue and blue plus)

The only thing that I'm concerned about re the Kessil is the lack of available diffusers. My tank is located in the living room and the light is blinding when sitting on the couch.

Is a Radion XR30 overkill?

I would do another Kessil or go AI especially for LPS on 13"H tank. The Radion XR30 might not have the spread for 36"W I think they recommend 32" max, maybe 2 XR15 but may be overkill.

Looking forward to your IM40l build. IM push the delivery for end of August. Really thinking about picking one up.

Really? How did you find out? The site still says July, but I really wasn't expecting them to hit that date.

The new XR30 G6 says it can cover up to 48".... but it might be way too much for 40g.

Looks like the AIO does ship end of July but the EXT now ships end of August. IM site.

Good to know the extra coverage on the new G6 that would definitely work and change things but yeah it might be overkill. You can always lower intensity. I was considering the Illumagic blaze X but might also be overkill for the shallow reef.

I run 3x Primes on my 36" 30L. I started with 2 but had some shadowing in the middle that I didn't much care for. I run the 2 end lights as a pair, then run the center light on its own (same schedule), so I can really dial in the intensities and get super even PAR from end-to-end.

Thanks everyone. I decided to go with (2) Kessil A360X.

Now I'm just waiting for the new tank to arrive. =)

FYI… I just got the call that my tank can ship today. They are way ahead of schedule.

That’s awesome, looking forward to your build thread. I’m still debating on the 40l Ext or a larger IM tank.

My biggest issue with the larger IM tank is the width since we have a dinning table in the way. Most of the large Ext are 24” + 3.5 for overflow box + 2” or 3” off the wall. I do like the SR80 so that could be an option.
