Thanks so much!! I have been talking with Luca about the potential for the atlas. And thank you for the layout drawings.@OutColdCRNA ... you have a few options if you wait for the Quanta Atlas release. You could buy two Atlas (with 0-10V dimming and replication of the visual portion of a 14,000K MH) and use your Noops as shown. Bring the Noops up early for the blues, then ramp the Altlas. See how that looks and build on that configuration. The first option might be enough; you can install the Noops fore/aft if that works better for your tank.
For reefing purposes, I only care about the visual portion of the spectrum. Debating the value of UV and IR is for those who wish to yell at clouds.
As for pricing, you might be pleased.

How many bulbs in each fixture?
4 bulbs per fixture. Two 48” fixtures to span the 96” of tank.

Still debating on 6 noops and 4 quanta bars. It wouldn’t be as cheap as the two t5 fixtures and 3 additional noops but by the time I factor in 8 new bulbs I wouldn’t be far off from the price of 4 quanta bars. Then there is the convenience factor of not changing bulbs. I have never had a tank with T5’s. Let alone a hybrid but I know that people swear by the t5’s.
Well, for a conversation's sake, those 8 bulbs will be re-occuring @$200 every year or 2; and 8 quanta bars would be $1480. So that's a 5 year break even on the bars(assuming 1 year t5 bulb change interval) . assuming they all still work and not significantly diminished output- then you start saving money(not calculating power consumption). Even then, you still don't have equal coverage as t5. But changing bulbs does get to be a pain(especially if not properly planned for in a canopy. Sorry, this probably isn't as helpful as it sounded in my head

Right, but I'm suggesting an apples to apples comparison. 8 for 8. You could argue par of the bars make it 4=8, I would argue spread... 30w difference, yea we'll call that even.. and ops actual number for the bulbs was 192, I rounded that to 200. But again, its for a 8' sps tank, not going to argue pennies
The bulb cost is a factor for me. As much as I want the blanket linear type light with the T5 I think a look close enough could be achieved with bars and point source light. Heat generation is also a factor as they will be in a canopy.
I agree that for lighting an 8’ tank I don’t want to quibble over pennies.
