I have a 36x36x24 Cube I’m am setting up trying to get a light that will have enough spread without spillling… prefer to stay under $500

that’s a tough one because sps lighting and under $500 doesn’t really exist but maybe you could start out with one AI prime and then add more later? If it were me I would go with a radion X R 15 then add more of those later (might get away with 3 maybe) but they are about 500 each. I think the AI prime is around 250. This is assuming you want to go LED but if you’re open to it you could go with a T5 fixture and just add bulbs later. You can go nuts with lighting. Maybe someone else has some input on some lower cost options.

You can go a few months after getting the tank setup before needing a light at all. Take the time to research and save some cash. If it were me I'd probably use one kessil 500 and some supplemental strips later on.

Costs more, but beautiful and will reach all the way to the bottom.

I misread the tank size. Even a 360x would work with some supplemental strips, no need for the 500.
