I recently watched a new YouTube clip from Vivid Aquariums on how they have changed their light setup on their big tank with alternating between MH lights and LEDs. That of course got me thinking more about supplementing my current setup to include either MH lights or T5's with my three existing Hydra 52s.

I am curious of the opinions of people that have tried either combination (MH & Led or T5 & Led) and the success that you have had with combining these light sources. Also, what combinations (i.e. light brand/type) do you like and why?

My setup is currently a standard 210 gallon tank with three AI hydra 52s over top. All lights are housed in an open-back canopy with room to spare. My tank currently houses a variety of coral, but SPS has been a bit of a focus, lately. Coral coloring is great with steady but medium to low growth rate. The growth rate is what I am looking to improve.

Comment away!

I'm big into t5 and LED. I tore up a t5 fixture and installed 2 radions where the center bulbs went. I also added a diy led strip in another t5 fixture. Almost as good as halide growth but much better color.

You could easily add a retro t5 kit in the canopy. If you do add t5 make sure you get quality ballasts and individual reflectors.
