Thinking about 3 kessil A500x with four - 4ft T5 blue plus for filler over a 8ft x 3ft x 2ft tall mixed coral tank.
Any Thoughts?
I love kessils and if it were me I would do 9Xs over 500xs for a 2 ft deep tank. Ideally 4 but I think 3 could work. The two pucks would be better than one for spread and I think you will be happier overall. It was an 8x2x3 then the 500xs would make more sense.

9 - A500X seams like overkill for a mixed reef tank these lights are supposed to have a 36" by 36" spread how would you even space them in an 8ft x 3ft area.

I apologize for the confusion. I do not mean 9 500xs I mean I would use 3 AP9Xs rather than 3 500Xs

The two lights are the same wattage but given that your tank is not very deep I think you will be happier with the light spread between 6 pucks rather than 3 for better coverage. I personally think Kessil is a little too optimistic with the 3x3 coverage area. Having seen the 500Xs I think 30x30 is more reasonable. The AP9Xs can cover a 3x2 area very well and with the proper spacing, I think they could work for your tank. 4 AP9Xx would absolutely work.

I generally think 500Xs are best for deep tanks or when the lights are more than 18in off the surface.
