Lighting times?

12 hours on/off is ideal....it is equivalent to lighting at the equator.

Mine are on for 10 hours total on the following schedule:

Actinics are on at noon
Daylights are on at 2:00 pm
Daylights are off at 7:30 pm
Actinics are off at 10:00 pm

This is an LED/T-5 combination mixed reef tank at the moment.

Does it matter when they come on even if daylight gets in the room. I'd like to be able to watch my tank for more than a couple hours when I get home from work. I feel like they must have internal clocks like us.

I've heard 12 hours is too long. Some people even say 10 is. And yes the sun is up for 12 hours at he equator but it also moves across the sky creating shadows. it won't always be direct sunlight on every part of the coral ect.

This is why I have my lights not come on until noon. This way they get onto a schedule where I can see the tank when I get home from work. I shut them off at 1:00 as I am winding down around that time so no need to have the tank on.

Nice. Does day light make its way in in the morning?
