Man that was a rant! I can see you obliviously took my comment about your electrical knowledge having nothing to do with reefing to heart. Guess you felt you needed to show you passion for your LEDs? All that of what you just said again has to do with electrical and lighting doesn't show me a corals growth rate as compared to my MH. I'm sure if I was in your field I would know as much as you about these things as well... you are 100% correct I don't know as much on this topic as you and I never claimed too. Only said "TO ME" MH is the best for growth and color and I'm sure there are tons of MH users here that will claim the same. maybe you should try to convince them because you can sit here and rant all you want! put up all these impressive number and charts but still doesn't show me actual growth. Seems more like a sales pitch then proven facts to me.... Do you work for this company? Lol I'm glad to see you convinced a few people to switch I'm proud of you. how am I selfish? Because I'm Using a well know type of lighting that gets me great growth rate, coloration, and has been proven over and over in this hobby makes me selfish? Because I am using MH on my tank? You think my 2 MH bulbs are causing all of the pollution in this world? I'm single handedly polluting our world and killing our reefs? How many street lights are in just america? How many of them use MH? I'm literally dying laughing typing this. I

can't go on anymore I give up. MAYBE your LEDs are great and I'm just missing it. BUT to me MH is still the way to go in this hobby. I do use you beloved LEDs to supplement so I halfway on your side lol. Here some pics of my reef.... Pics taken with my iPhone 5 under my 20K MH with no filter. Every colony started from single polyp frags nothing is older then 1.5 years old most are under a year old.

Oh no, this is gonna be a long one because I've got my work cut out here in a big way...

I get it now, you're the selfish type that says DILLIGAF aren't you?

I thought you might have paid attention before and understood what I wrote and the main reason for me being so adamant, but I was wrong... You really are selfish and don't care about the environment, therefore you cannot be a father or even plan to have kids for that matter.
You didn't even bother following the link did you?
I'll have to try a bit harder then because you're a hard nut to crack!

You really are digging yourself a big hole here aren't you...?
I was trying to be polite and let you down gently off your MH perch but it's clear you really do have your head wedged so far up your self righteous arrogant rectum that you just can't be told even when the facts have been laid out in front of you...

You obviously refuse to accept the data that CTLite show on their site that THEIR LED's DO show a far superior spectrum AND a greater penetrative spectrum across the whole range... Proving a much higher growth rate and colours obtained... They just blow MH's right out of the water!
And yes it HAS been proven... So, you're wrong again my friend... LED's HAVE ALREADY BEEN PROVEN, apologies for shouting but it's like trying to teach my wife to parallel park (tbh I gave up and bought her a car with active park assist! But that a completely different argument)...
Maybe you just don't understand the light spectrum?

As for depth penetration, I know a guy with a 36" deep 6' tank who was impressed with mine and wanted to try them, so I took two of my CTLites around there and set them up 1ft above the water and guess what!??
Yep, he was instantly sold and is now waiting for his order of 4 double units to arrive from Bangkok!
He can't wait to get his electric bill down to stop his wife moaning!

Now for your contradictory heat argument!
Are you serious? I mean, really serious??
You say your tank never gets above 79 and blah blah my chiller blah blah blah... Then you go on to say "I have my house thermostat set at 75"!

1, 2, lots, many.... 2+2=2 doesn't it?
Just think about the contradiction you just wrote!

Does Ambient Temperature mean anything to you?
I'm not even going to bother trying to explain Lumens to you as it will just go straight over your head after what I've just read...

All I'll say on this matter, and I'm repeating myself here... Again...
Is that Watts = HEAT, not brightness or even light penetration.
Just google Lumens & Watts and you might understand why the LEDs penetrate a great deal further per watt than MH ever will. There again, maybe you won't understand...?

Welcome to the 21st century Sirreefalot where it's been time to start conserving energy for quite a few years now!

And here is where I have to take a different approach to bang the nail in..
The energy and power we humans use has a by product called pollution, polluting the air we breath and polluting the sea, which in turn is destroying our reefs on a daily basis...
Just compare the amount of pollution caused from manufacturing a complete MH system (lamps + ballast + electronics) vs the far superior LED and it's PWM...

If every person had your "I don't care coz I've used this for years and know it works for me" attitude, Our great grandchildren won't even know what a reef looks like in real life because they'll only be looking at the photos in HISTORY books....
If that's not a good enough reason to lighten up (excuse the pun) and make the change, then I don't know what is.
You can argue that there's more and more wind/solar/gas farms producing clean power everyday, but in all honesty, is it all that clean?
Look at the Toyota Prius for example.

I do apologise to other members for my witty retorts towards this stick in the mud, but I'm allergic to arrogant, ignorant and self righteous people... They make me break out in sarcasm...
Enough said on this matter now... My point is has been hammered home and it's staying put because it's based on facts, not what I've been using for the last 30 years..

I just looked at your beloved website that you keep insisting I visit and man what a joke! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I was to busy laughing at your rant and didn't see the part of you calling me arrogant, ignorant and self righteous. Really? Man you got all that from me preferring MH over LEDs? Ha! You are truly showing how upset you are over my comment about your knowledge about reefing don't know why you took this so personal but Please refrain from name calling buddy this does nothing but make you look immature and insecure.

Man you sure had a lot to say but you didn't seem to have the time to elaborate on how I contradicted myself when it came to my ambient temperature and my tank reaching 79 degrees please explain......

First, what coral are you thinking to put it in? are they SPS, LPS or soft coral? Because SPS required more light than the LPS and soft corals.

I don't usually have that much to say but I have to make an exception for some as dumbing it down to Layman's terms just isn't enough...

You was arguing that the lights don't heat up the tank as much as I was making out, meaning they don't heat up the tank enough for it to get hot enough to make the chiller start up.

Ambient Temperature:
Ambient temperature is a term which refers to the temperature in a room, or the temperature which surrounds an object under discussion, in this case the object under discussion is the tank and everything that goes with it. Anything that comes into contact with the air in the room, including yourself is affected by the room temperature, aka Ambient temperature.

So, you like to keep your tank at 79 and you keep the room/house/ambient temperature at 75 which is 4 degrees COOLER than the tank.

All the outside of the glass/acrylic will be acting as a heat exchanger transferring some of that cooler surrounding air temperature to the tank, the cooler air being sucked in by the "cooling fans" on the lights will also have a greater affect, because it's cooler.

I really do hope that you can understand what I'm saying now... [emoji120]
I really can't explain it any simpler.

Just one question: Does your heater ever come on at all?
Do you have a reef controller? A Neptune Apex or Reef keeper?

For someone that usually doesn't have that much to say your sure did say a lot. Thank you! You made it nice and simple for me to understand.... That was two questions but.... No I do not run a controller and yes in the winter at night sometimes my heater kicks on. Still don't see how i contradict myself. My heater is set to 77 so my tank fluctuates 2 degrees and most of the time stays around 78. Yes as I said MH put off alot of heat but for ME on MY tank it works fine. My chiller is set to 80 and like I said hasn't came on yet this summer.

So I was right then, you live by DILLIGAF.

I rest my case...

What? Lol where is your proof? The link you posted is to one of the worst websites I have ever seen. Even if it was a good site what is that going to prove ? another chart to look at? ? ? Even the chart that comes in cheap fluval LEDs make them look like they will work but they don't and they are trash. Do you even have a reef tank or are you just here to try and sell some LEDs? lol

Still around on this thread Javen? Welcome to the world of reef-fights! Although this site isn't normally the bad one...
