need lights with a timer what does everyone recommend? Planning for a reef aquarium

Need more info please. What are your tank dimensions and what kind of corals are you wanting to keep. Also, if you have a strict budget, about how much is it?

You can get away with a Ebay Chinese light for $100 or start with a quality light that keeps it's value but won't give you problems and if you have a issue look for the best customer service, Ecotech Marine, Coralvue, ATI are all sponsors here and have wide selection.

its all about the budget. and then tank size;)

My tank is 72" long by 18" wide 24" deep. I'm not sure what kind of corals I want. My friend suggested "USA orbit LED" or the Pro in that same light.

I have the orbit marine reef pro.. my tank is 29 gallon with sump, have all lps corals. I love the light and it's easy to program, a tad pricey though, I paid 300 I think. I have the reef version which gives you the light spectrum, not just whites and blues
