Can anyone lead me in a good direction for better lighting for my 125 gal tank with 2 open brains a sailfin Hippo tang a tomini tang and coral beauty angel fish. I really want to start expandeding in to mor corals and currently my tank stands 72 x 18 x 24 I currently have the Orbit USA IC loop So kinda looking to either a replace that with another 72" or IF YOU THINK THAT HAVING TWO SEPERATVLIGHTS HANGING. And recommendations on which brands , lights etc

There is a LOT of lights out there. Do you prefer to stay with LED? Do you want a hybrid LED/t5? What is your budget? Do you like to have a technical light that you can adjust on your computer to your liking or would you prefer a light that you just turn on and leave it? There are dozens and dozens of great lights out there that work for different people so if we can find out a little of what your future goals, tech savvy-ness and budget can help narrow it down some

I really like my SB reef light. Rumor has it that they are coming out with an Apex ready version in the near future. Otherwise I have the Extreme WiFi now. Only flaw is if using Android to control it, it is severely limited to data points in a day.

My SB reef light is growing everything I have in a mixed reef. I don't have any insane SPS, just a monti though. Only thing that is having trouble is a favia but I'm not sold that it's a lighting issue

They make different sizes. I have one 16" now but they come in 32" as well. I only need one for now but I plan on upgrading to a 125-150 in a year or so. I plan on sticking with the 16" though. Marc from Melevs Reef said it best that it's best to try and emulate the corals normal light cycle as best we can. He has one side of the tank turn on before the other to simulate a sunrise and then turn off at different times as well to simulate the sunset. This would be much easier with the Ramping or elite version of the 16" model. And at $250 a pop there is nothing else like it available on the market now.

is it a 72" or 60" 125?
If 72" you could start off with 3 16" ones but as things grow you may need more to prevent shading. Or just get two 32" ones and be done with it. Going 32" saves you $100

There are so many opinions about the best answer for your question. Many different lights or lights combinations can work but are they the most failproof options? Instead of asking for others opinions, I would do the search myself for what works more frequently than not. Lights can be expensive, so you likely will not want change it after you invested in one type. So, as a good start point, look at recent "tank of the month" threads and find out what most of them is using. Those tanks are proof that the light source works. Good luck.

The SB 48in should be out in the next few months. All the BB's hit about 1500 par at 12in. so no lack of power there.
