Ok just getting into the corals and on a budget. My question is can I use a FluvalSmart aqua sky led 35 watt for soft corals until I save up for a better light? Here is what it looks like right now. Any help and good advice would be appreciated.

Have you read the Supreme Setup Guide... here, or do you have a book or other reference you're going by?

No just advice from the 2 local stores I buy from and different forums. Maybe a book would be good. There is so much information out there that contradicts I get confused. I like talking with people that have experience they seem to want to help so others don’t make the same mistakes.

Hello,

From the experience I have had with my old 125 the fluval marine 2.0 will grow softies, lps and some sps. It will not grow clams and you can not put them on anything larger than a 125. Getting the WiFi controller will save you from throwing the light across your living room.

The fluval sky is only designed for fresh water, I would not suggest using those lights for coral. The marine 2.0 should be the same price or now actually cheaper.

Ok thanks for the info. I’m planning on buying a FluvalSmart marine. I was going to wait awhile but maybe I’ll grt one tomorrow. The corals in the pictures are the ones I have now on the aqua sky and seem to be doing ok but plan on getting more soon.

Hello,

Do you mean more corals or different lights? I would not recommend for any reason doing that. These corals will not get the uv and photosynthetic food they need to survive. These would not even grow plants very well. They really are designed for a fresh water tank only with fish and fake decorations.

I’m going to get a reef light tomorrow then add more corals. I definitely want my corals to thrive. Wanted to do a test with the fish and stuff I have in the tank before buying an expensive light. My yellow tang and coral beauty don’t seem to care about them right now. My hermit crabs and cleaner shrimp seem to be the ones all over them right now.

There are lots more, but any of those would make a great start.
