So I have been tossing around the idea of changing up the lighting in my 30 gallon cause my blue light went out. The light I have on the aquarium is super bulky also and it doesn’t look good at all. Love how the tank looks just want to be able to fine tune the lighting. Have been thinking of buying 2 gooseneck mounts and getting 2 screw in bulbs. My fear is that they won’t provide enough light for my corals(when I put them in).

Does anyone have any good lights that they didn’t have to spend a crazy amount on that grow corals very well? Thinking of doing some frogspawn to start.

What is your budget?

Get an SBReef lights fixture. It's about the price of 3 screw in bulbs so not expensive.

And yeah, we all feel where you're coming from.. But best to learn now... Cheap doesn't fly in this hobby. This is a very, very expensive hobby. It can be done cheap, but you need to do lots of research.

Kessil 160s are also good and pretty budget for most. Great controllability with the spectral controller as well

Viparspectra

The chinese led boxes are good on a budget... they don't have the control-ability that the other higher end ones have but i've seen lots of people grow corals with these lights. they are pretty powerful tho so be careful, may want to hang it higher than just the rim or the water line of the tank. Like Jekyl mentioned above, Viparspectra is a popular one on Amazon and Ebay.

For softies, lps, etc... (nothing that demands really high light), you can get a current LED light fixture. A little pricier, but you will have the sunrise, sunset effect with other cool features. You can also customize the light spectrum. This light also just rests on your tank rim with brackets, versus hanging it. I've owned one and it's a neat fixture for not so demanding corals like euphyllia (frogspawn, etc..), zoas, mushrooms, etc.. Check it out!
