Hey guys, I live in Fresno cal, it’s flippen hit here. Just got my t5 light fixture in. Set it up (I know it has to be higher due to the heat) but it’s 18 inches necessary? I feel like that’s too high.

Ps. I know it’s off, I’m going to straighten it out

Why do you think it has to be 18 inches? Put it where you want. I anything get a par meter and adjust by the par strength.

Did the temp of the tank rise with it that high? If not, I'd start lowering it a few inches a day. 18" is pretty far off the water, imo.

Few inches a week, not every day.

I was told to put them so far away. They said since they are t5s they do put out a lot of heat, and it can raise the temperature of my tank.. I’m going to get a par meter here in the future, no coral are going in the tank for awhile so I have time to adjust
