has anyone tried plasma lights on their tanks?

from what I see they are lacking in the 455nm range but that can be suplemented with led easily
but with a price of about $150 for a 50w light that is equal to a 200w mh, and a 100w for about $230 that is equal to about a 400w mh why did I just build led fixtures?

I am asking because I would like to feel beter about the $$$ I just spent on my led that cant even compare to the light of the plasma

I have not but I have seen a few reefs on the net and they seem to be doing great. I would like to hear some first hand feedback myself.

I didn't realize that they had come down in cost that much. The last time I looked, you couldn't get an plasma lights for less than $1k. Where are you finding it for that?

either way, true plasma, or induction lighting (what I have found with the 300w plasma is they put off toxic radiation! these induction lights dont

it looks like the numbers are equal to or better than led.

I am going to buy 2-50w and a 100w I think i will try a 50w on a tank to see how it looks. (going to calli next week so it will have to wait a couple weeks)
I am guessing it will look yellowish but hopefully with the blue led's it will fix that

I'm due for two new 400w bulbs and these look interesting to me, if they can penetrate 24" of water to provide for my clams I'm in. If tank looks too white Ill add blue LED strips.

I believe that in addition to the visible light, they emit ultraviolet radiation. This is similar to some metal halide bulbs and could probably be solved by placing a piece of specially-designed UV-absorptive glass between the bulb and tank. Not 100% sure on that one, but that's my best guess.

how can it be less efficient than t-5 if a 100w bulb compares to a 400w mh? I have never seen 2 t-5 bulbs come close to a 400w mh even the 90w vho t5 dosnt compare

yes I have a par meter.
my concern is what the numbers look like under 2' of water. if they look good I may have to buy a couple for my tanks

yes the radiation is the kind that gives you cancer.........
