Lightning Maroon Babies

The white body maroon/orange band is called "Thunder" maroons. I have one. I'm not sure what the company is that "first" released them, all I know is she was 87 dollars LFS price, plus tax.

CooperLightings.

You will always see variations in coloration and markings.

You may be able to sell off the clowns with the best lighting presentation for a decent price.

Job well done they are beautiful.
Okay & thanks :)

I’m sure I’ve seen that name mentioned over here before, good to know thanks

Thanks for sharing. I could never get maroons to pair up, let alone laying eggs and raising fry successfully.

Hi All
Just wanted to post up my second attempt at raising Lightning Maroon clownfish . First attempt only ended up with 6 now 11 weeks old, second I have around 42 at 7 weeks old. Even have some reverse colours mostly white with dark fins.

That's exciting! They are so cute.

So these babies are coming up for 7 & 8 months old. Some should have started to go to their new homes but Covid 19 lockdown stopped that. Having so many Lightning Maroons in one place is a challenge so I’ve divided them into groups. Now I have 2 groups of 6 and 1 of 7 with BTAs in the main display, they are much happier in nems.Made acrylic boxes for this purpose. I have the largest and calmer ones together in the 100 litre grow out tank and then a further 2 acrylic cases in the 100 litre with 3 babies and the other with 4.
I have lost a few recently and had to euthanise one but the others are doing great (now the fighting has eased)
There are 6 babies that are still small at 7 months old, maybe around 20mm / 3/4” or under. I’m not sure if that’s a problem or not but they eat and act normal so maybe they are just mini Maroons, wouldn’t that be cool.

Before separating.

Love it. You have developed a great system, functional and aesthetically pleasing. Looks like you have a lot anemones to work with.

have you reared any other nests from the parents or are you waiting to get rid of the young you have now?
There are 2 batches together, my 1st and 2nd attempt. Not raised anymore since. The parents are laying very often , every 10 days or so, maybe once these are all in their new homes I may give it another go but it is a lot of work at first.

This is something that I have always been interested in trying. What kind of filtration did you use on the tank your reared them in? How did you prevent them from getting sucked in?

I use sponge filters in various sizes until they are big enough to use a hang on filter. I still have sponge filter and hang on filter in the 100 litre tank with live rock.

Thank you. I've never had any experience with a sponge filter, but after I watched a YouTube video it makes perfect sense. I'm still a long way away from attempting this, but I really think it would be cool to do one day. My clowns are always laying eggs so we'll see, maybe one day I'll try raising a clutch.

I highly recomend raising live foods first. This will help you in the long run. What you raise, be it copepods or rotifers, you can feed to your reef tank. That's what i did with my live foods that I didn't need. You can never have too much practice culturing live foods
