Is anyone else as excite about the possibility of some lightning maroon clowns FINALLY hitting the market in the next few months??

Now granted I am sure that certain breeders and big names in our hobby with most likely get 1st dibs on any quality patterned offspring but I think that within a year they will be available to us the "general public" I also feel they will probably be priced somewhere in the neighborhood if the Wyoming White's that are **** near impossible to find, I think that $1000-1500 will most likely be the starting price point when they hit the market

For anyone interested here is a link to "The Lightning Project" which is the guy who has the breeding female's blog

Yeah I've been following that clownfish ever since the first photo's of her appeared about 2 years ago or so and have been absolutely fascinated by it ever since, and now that he has successfully raised the babies to "so far" 8 days post hatch I think we will start seeing them in the hobby ALTHOUGH I know that blue zoo aquatics already has first dibs on his first spawn, However I dont know if they plan on taking ALL of the babies or just a few select ones

have also been following this for 2yrs and am excited for the possibiltie of lightnings

Yeah there were originally 2 lightning maroons brought into the country about the same time and unfortunately 1 of them died not long after it arrived, I am rather curious as to how many of the babies will get the lightning bolt pattern on them since the male is a regular striped maroon, I am also curious as to when they will develop the distinctive pattern that makes them so unique...Will they get the pattern right away as soon as they get there stripes or will they have regular stripes that eventually change into the lightning bolt pattern

They are just TO COOL!

So glad to see all the enthusiasm guys. Keep sending the positive energy! Given my most recent blog update was on "Mythbusting..." I have to jump in and make some corrections / ask some question:

I think you've mixed true and false information together to create the above statement. Yes, two have come into the country. The only one we can absolutely speak with authority about is the one that I have. However, they did not come in at the same time; the first was 2008, the second 2 years later. What may have tripped you up was the April Fool's fish - Building a Mystery - The Lightning Project

If you've seen today's ReefBuilder's blog post by Jake, with the first released images from Sunday night, tell me what you think - Lightning maroon offspring already show promising banding in the first generation

I think I remember reading about 18% can have the desired pattern but I could be wrong.

18%? It's such an odd number, I'm dying to know where it came from. Please see if you can remember/find where you read it. I ask, because genetically speaking, I have no idea what genetic inheritance rules could result in an 18% expression. Sure, 0%, 25%, 50%, 100%, but 18%? Would LOVE to see where 18% came from.

Thanks for the direct update MP! Awesome fish and that pattern looks promising. Best of luck!

Great news that they are already starting to show the patterns somewhat. Thanks for busting some of the myths too, really looking forward to watching how the offspring grow and develop!

So there's only 1 Lightning Maroon in the US right now? How many exist in the world (in captivity)?

Thanks for the update. It is really promising. It's great to see that the striping may be genetic.

There is only 1 (known) in captivity world-wide.

This is so great! Awesome job Matt. Can't wait to see these babies grow.
