Lights too strong?

I managed to find a lux meter. The lux at the surface is about 12k. Maybe the problem isn't too much light
is it a real lux meter? 12,000 k?

2 apps. compare it to these
Galactica luxmeter for Iphone
LUX Light Meter by Chrunchy Bytebox for android.

It's a Milwaukee mw 700. The reading is 12000 lux
Sweet a real real one. Still compare unless its brand new(calibration).
And yea. Not enough light. How long have they been over the tank? And what color/manufacturer are they?

Its actually best it worked out like that. start low and ramp up.

Lets phone a friend:)

@mcarroll hello sir. Can you help a reefer out with his halides.

While we wait. Wave the meter around and see what its going to take to get it up to 50,000 over the next couple weeks.

Is that for sure the peak lighting if you measure all around the tank particularly where the light from two bulbs intersects? I'm not saying 12k is the wrong number, but it's quite a bit lower than what I expected you to report.

What is the difference in peak numbers that you observe when only one set of halides is on versus both sets?

How close to the bulbs do you have to get to achieve 50,000 on the meter?

Tank pic w/lighting rig?

No chance the display read "12,000" but also a "x10" down in the corner? ( mine is not a Milwaukee, but it has x10 and x100 settings )

120,000 would've been closer to my guess...
