Just got a 29 gallon tank, set cup the filter and have everything I need but lights. I've heard lighting is pretty important so does anyone have any suggestions on what lighting to get that won't break the bank?

Ive got a AI Prime HD that works great on my 33G, id recommend it but its hard accomidating all the different corals lighting requirements with one light
Would it work for anemone? that would probably be my first piece.

IMO, you are better off waiting for 6 months to a year to give the tank a chance to mature and stabilize before adding an anemone. This may also give you time to build up a little bigger "bank".

ive got one in my tank, it seems happy as ever however it does like to be very high up which took some space away for other corals. I also don't recommend anemones for your first coral they are prone to choosing their own place no matter what you do. they will also randomly decide to wander around the tank for no reason sometimes and sting other coral.

Oh yeah I was planning on waiting a while, I only asked that so when the time comes for an anemone, I do not have to go out and buy a new light

Thanks for the heads up!

To answer the question...yes, the AI Prime would be OK for an Anemone.

Like stated above though, I would not recommend adding an Anemone into a new tank. I would go even further and say that I will not have one in my reef tank at all if you plan on spending a lot of money on your coral. I have a 160 gallon mixed reef tank and a 45 gallon tank with no coral. I plan to have a few Nems as well as a pair of clowns and some other smaller fish in the 45 gallon tank.I have already spent thousands on the coral I have and will be spending thousands more and the thought of having a Nem wonder around killing my expensive coral along the way gives me nightmares! :(

If you are OK with the Nem potentially killing your coral, then more power to you and good luck, but still wait a bit so your water parameters get stable. Nems are very sensitive to swings in water parameters and you have a better chance of it dying on you in a new tank. I recommend doing some research before buying one. That actually goes for anything you plan on adding to your tank though.

I will also add that Nems require lighting closer to SPS levels. In a tank that small, that means that you have to be careful on placing LPS and Soft corals that require lower lighting. If you place them too high or in the center they may bleach and die on you. I have a lot of torches in a 20 gallon coral QT with an AI Prime and had to plan out the placement since I have a couple SPS in there as well. Just figured I would point that out if you plan on keeping lower light coral as well.

Good luck and welcome to R2R!!!:)
