Havent looked at my tank in over 6 months and i have an explosion of limpets. Is there a fish or some type of invert that consumes these?

I think the general consensus is that the population control is self regulated based on the amount of food available. I've witnessed this myself in a couple tanks and somewhat in my current 210 upgrade that is in progress. I find them in all water areas be it sump, overflow box, and display tank. Vary in size but so far population isn't too terrible. Personally speaking I like them and it helps me gauge my nutrients.

In general I don't think it is a must, or should, irradiate sort of thing. I think it is more of a good thing and one which you should use as a data point for nutrients. If the population starts to increase cut back on feeding. And by feeding start with the sort of food that may contain the most nutrients such as flake, dry reef roid sort of then, then start with frozen, rinsing, etc.

I think you got it - nothing to worry about and great creatures.
