Lineatus Fairy Wrasse

Hello R2R. Im looking for some personal input regarding this wrasse. LiveAquaria has them on sale for 150 dollars. Only concern i have at this point is they have warned about a tank lid because they like to jump. Tank is a 75 rimless so a lid kinda defeats the purpose. I know they have to warn ya about every possible potential, so im just looking for anyones feeling on this matter. Tank mates would be a pair of clowns, some chromis, some gobies, and a small mystery wrasse. Any concerns with adding this fish to that collection of fish? Thanks for the info. Paul C.

Don't waste your money on this wrasse, or any fairy wrasse, unless you cover your aquarium. They will jump without question. That mystery wrasse is another big problem. Mystery and six line wrasses are known to be very aggressive toward fairy wrasses.

My advice would be to cover your tank for the first month while it is getting comfortable to your reef. Then you would be good from that point on. Most fish jump during their acclimation period and then you're good.

What would be some other possible wrasse tank mates for the mystery?

I had a ~3" lineatus for roughly 6 months.
I had my tank covered with just a few small gaps in the back where power cables and my return came in.

The lineatus found one of these small openings one day and jumped out.
There were no other wrasses in the display and I had never seen damage on it.

Needless to say I would not get one unless you cover every opening tightly.
Clear netting with 1/2" squares (or smaller) would be the best option in my opinion.

Wrasse always finds a way to jump no matter how small the gap is....leopard wrasse is less jumpy, but agin very hard to keep.

I'm sorry to say that I agree with what is posted already. wrasses will always find a reason to jump out sooner or later. it's not a matter of they will jump, it's just a matter of when.

All wrasses jump! Worth a lid if you have a canopy or even open top provided its not rimless. The one downside to a rimless setup IMO and what tank is complete without a wrasse

If you have a rimless tank, you kind of cant have wrasses....

Build a screen top and just glue a fee tabs around the outside so it sets down inside the tank and lays even with the rim. Problem solved ;-)

Definitely one of the lucky ones. But can't always count on luck.
