Lionfish!

Just as I was asking Felicia.

Ya better say "ONLY FELICIA ANSWER THIS" if it's only directed at her or I'll be on any question like Ich on a Tang! I hope she knows to jump on in with me too. There's also Doug around these parts and I bet some of his experiences are different than either Felicia or I. Get as many opinions as you can without confusing yourself. :)

You should definitely answer too, Renee! You are much more of an expert than I am! I've only had my lions for a bit less than a year now. I agree that its best to get tons of opinions and experience to get a good picture of what works for different people. Also, each individual fish is a bit different, so its great to hear about a bunch of different experiences to know what to expect!

I actually just went to your profile and watched your video of what you have and I must say you have ONE BEAUTIFUL tank!!
Since im barely starting all this saltwater tank and I was watching your video I did get scared for a bit when you went and showed your sump cause it seems there's a lot of things in there. I did like a lot how you went in and broke things down and explained stuff that helped. I also liked the idea how you labeled your cords.

You mentioned sex. I say "he" a lot when referring to my fish. I'm not sure why, as they are not sexable. You are SUPPOSED to be able to sex a fuzzy, but I'm very VERY disappointed about that whole thing. I recently came across the information that whole thing was based on..... I am not amused. I'm going to say you're taking a huge chance if you follow the current established criteria.

If you're new to saltwater tanks, the best thing you can do is ask lots of questions and do lots of research! Most people will be more than willing to help out, so ask away. Glad you liked my video and that it was helpful! I started my first saltwater reef tank 4 years ago, and I've learned a ton and am still learning. Before that I had freshwater tanks since I was 5 years old, but they were always very basic. As I've learned more in this hobby, I've had several different tanks and I've done the equipment and such differently. I've learned a lot and really put a ton of planning into this most recent system. I know its all overwhelming at first, but you'll figure it out if you take your time and keep asking questions and reading information.

I really don't mind the sex. I think all lionfish are beautiful. I don't think female or male makes a difference but it would of been nice if you can tell the different

Yeah I been asking a lot. Like I said I probably asked same question like 10, 20 times lol just want to know people's different opinions. And yeah I did helped ALOT. at first when I had no clue it was overwhelming because it seemed I needed so many things. Now that I feel more confident it's not to bad but yeah I'm going to take my time!

Yeah the fuzzy sexing guidelines seems a bit hand wavy to me. Seems like it would be really hard to tell with a reasonable degree of certainty.

And yeah, for some reason I just randomly assign genders to fish in my head because I find it weird to refer to them as "it". My fu mancu and dwarf zebra are boys, the antennata is a girl, the eel is a boy, and my tomini tang is a girl in my head. In reality though, I don't have the least bit of a clue what any of their genders are, haha!

I have a question for both... My tank is 4o gallons, now I just got my RODI unit. It's going to take some time for me to fill the aquarium up with the water... This might sound like a dumb question, but if I fill the tank 5 gallons every 2 hours or so is the water still good ifs it's there waiting/sitting or will be no good?Does that make sense? Or do I need to fill the whole tank with water all in one time!?
Have any of you tried distilled water?

RODI water can sit, no problem! I have my RODI unit plumbed into a 5 gallon bucket with a float switch and anytime I empty the bucket it automatically makes more water until the bucket is full and then shuts down. So I constantly have water ready to go, which sits until I need it. I haven't used store bought distilled water, but it's an option for helping to fill up the tank at the beginning.

Oh okay !!! That sounds pretty nice. And would you recommend distilled water??
Because I have the 5 gallon bucket and I feel is going to take forget to fill my tank up with RODI water.

I finally set up my saltwater tank. Very excited. Is it normal to be this cloudy?? It starting to clear a bit since I first set it up.
Any tips to make it crystal clear faster?? For now I have 100gph heater? Water feels a bit cold. Do y'all recommend getting another one?
I plan on just doing FOWLR tank for now. What would be better filter or skimmer? Or would live rock and frequent water changes be okay? It's my first time so sorry if I ask to many questions.
