Hi all.

Since I replaced my sandbed, my phosphate has become difficult to control. I'm currently at 0.2ppm. I know it won't be forever and when biodiversity returns to my sand, I'm expecting it to balance back out with my nitrate, currently 10ppm.

But until then, I have GFO in a reactor which is helping but still not enough to keep po4 stable. So I bought a bottle of Quantum phosphate remover which I am going to dose daily with my doser.

My LFS said I should stop using GFO whilst using this product but didn't explain why. Is this true or can I use both together?

Thanks

Personally I think the answer is no. You would have a very high chance of stripping out all of the PO4. I would agree with the LFS.

I'm testing everyday and after just winning a soul destroying dinoflagellates battle...I won't let that happen ever again :D

Assuming I closely monitor, is there any reason the two can't be used together?

Other than letting it get away from you and go too low, the next reason is that GFO is way more expensive than LaCl, the liquid phosphate binder you purchased, so I would save the GFO for when you need it.

Once you hit 0.10 ppm, then GFO becomes the go to choice rather than LaCl, as it becomes harder to remove phosphate with LaCl once you get below 0.10 ppm.
