Literally microscopic worms

Lol guilty
I'm in the process of making a thread! But since you asked :) Not the most inspiring aquascape lol

Will hopefully have 2 little native Aussie seahorses (captive bred ofc) in here two
weeks later! Atm just some peppermint shrimp and a few snails.

Lol your aquascape is fine..... sea horses? Pretty cool. How long has this tank been set up?
And welcome to R2R(if you’re new)

From what I understand about aquarium keeping, both saltwater and freshwater, our tanks are teaming with microscopic organisms. So many that we could spend a lifetime trying to identifying them all. Most of them are harmless, some are vital and some are bad actors but that's why our fish have an immune system. I believe that those worms and critters like them are what gobys are filtering the sand for. I definitely wouldn't worry about them. I find the microscopic world utterly fascinating. I saw that microscope on facebook and was wondering if it would be a fun investment. Looks like it would be. Thanks for sharing.

I find it funny that others are creeped out by your vid of microscopic worms in the sand bed. In biology lab I saw waay creepier microscopic life in pond water under the scope, and oddly enough, I found this forum while researching a paper for that class.

I’m the only one that gets weirded out while everyone else is out there fragging corals and holding live rock with their bare hands. If only they knew.... ;-)

I love exploring samples from my tank under the microscope. There's so much detail you'd never know is there without one.

Cilliates:

Diatoms and Dinoflagellates:

Baby cleaner shrimp hatch:

I had a cheapie microscope that broke (literally the metal stand fell apart/crumbled) but it's awesome to see a whole new scale of life inside our tanks. It's also a reason I always wear gloves lol

Cilliates:
Those ciliates look like they've ingested coral zooxanthellae. My microscope shots of brown jelly disease look like that.
Is that what that sample was from?

Yes, that sample was from brown jelly. I lost about 20% of my corals from that last year. Things rebounded nicely after a month or so and everything is thriving now.
