Little Black Cap on Skimmer silencer?

Ive come to realize my skimmer (3000 INT) is suppose to have a little black cap covering one of the two holes on the air intake. What is the function of this cap? Do I need it on my skimmer? Can I just plug the hole with anything else?

It reduces the air intake. You will have to be the judge of whether or not you need it based on how your skimmer is running.

You can easily tell... cover one of the holes on the silencer with your finger, if it's much quieter, and you want ***, cap it. But I am sure you can build it out of anything, screw caps from your local home depot for example.

i've been using a foam ear plug for mine LOL. I was going to order a new plug from coral cue. But the foam plug was free out of my range bag

The black caps are used to direct the air flow through one tube which allows the silencer to well, silence the vaccum sound. If the sound from the silencer does not bother you without the cap I would suggest not using it as it does restrict the air to the pump slightly.
