Hello Everyone,

I am new to the saltwater community. I recently switched my freshwater tank to saltwater. So far, I have build an aquascape out of live rock and dry rock, put sand in and cycled the tank. When I got my ammonia and nitrates down to zero, I put in a small clean up crew consisting of Trochus snails, Nassarius snails, and emerald crabs, plus I have one clown fish. At about the same time as putting in the clean up crew, Diatom blossomed. I know the diatom is brown and is covering a lot, but today I came home after work and saw these little brown pellet like things on the sand in front of the tank. To me they kinda look like it could be waste from either a crab or maybe snail. I fear that it is larvae from some unwanted critter. Any thoughts of what they might be? They are only about a millimeter in size. I do not feed pellet food, so far only frozen brine shrimp. Also it should be noted that these are only in one area of the 72 gallon tank. Curious as to what you seasoned reefers think they might be.

Thanks in advance for your insight,

Welcome Kevin ! This really is a good place to learn. The pellets look like some fish doo or such. Hey, the crab likes it so no worries !
I do not! Oh, the emerald crab....my bad ;)

If you have a big turbo snail, that's probably the source. I have some in a small tank with a couple of clownfish. There are a bunch of pellets from them.
