Little hammer heads on coral base

Do hammers reproduce like this? I thought they split their heads by two. Now it has like 4 or 5 of these small hammer growing on its sides. I had to take this photo right as lights went on, else the tentacles cover them all up

Yes. Those are baby hammers.

They do both, make little side hammers like that and split their heads.

I've tried fragging and growing those little heads occasionally and it takes forever to amount to anything.

Yes they do. I have several on my one hammer. They’re very slow growers but they are baby hammers.
