I came across the 20.000 gallon reef video on the old tube, seen it before but still interesting guy and setup. Then i spotted what it think is the most beautiful fish in the tank. It looks like a powder black tang to me, but after googling some images i cant find any with the orange fin and dark black body. The powder brown has it, and i can find some images with it described as powder black, but they have a brown body. Is this something rare, maybe a hybrid with a 1K pricetag? Or something that can be found for a reasonable price? would love to have one of these some day ;Happy

A. nigricans doesn't have that much white on its face.

A. japonicus Does have orange on its dorsal fin. Usually the body doesn't look that dark, but it could be the screenshot. I'd say A. japonicus (powder brown). 15 min mark is powder brown, if that's the same fish.

Powder Brown Tang, a dark one. Their coloration varies by mood and of course species variance.

+1

I’ve seen a. Japonicus that have a beautiful navy blue coloration- more similar to an A. nigricans - and others that are more brown. IMO the bluer japonicus specimens are crazy beautiful, as beautiful as an Achilles tang practically

Possibly also a brown/achilles hybrid.

Powder Brown tang. Fairly common. The lesser attractive of the 4.. Achilles>Powder Blue>Gold Rim>Powder Brown

Cool thanks guys! At least thats within the scope of possibilities ;Happy Love the achilles tangs but they are €300 at my lfs,to much for my lifestyle.. Guess i need to find an importer that is wiling to select one with a darker color for me.

Yeah sorry they right with powder brown. The color in the background made my initial thoughts say white cheek, but they right.

Powder brown are nice. So are the gold rims. They all are ich magnets though, so quarantine if you do get one and personally I like to supplement my food with some metronidyzol (sorry if the spelling is off) when feeding

Will do, this time im in no rush so im planning to QT everything that goes in the tank. Ill will have to do some reading on that medication, never heard of adding that to food, will check it out!

I normally thaw a flat or larger chunk of frozen on a double up paper towel to get rid of the unneeded juices. Then sprinkle the metro on the food like you are salting beef. Then mix it up and refreeze. Feed to the fish frozen and try to not feed to corals. When you feed it frozen, itll stay with the food better than if it stayed thawed, helping the fish actually eat the medication. I believe they also make pellet food now that contains it. Personally, I always keep a medicated flat in the freezer in a ziplock in case I ever see signs of ich or when I add an ich magnets fish

Powder brown (japonicus). Definitely not a white cheek.

I disagree that it is less attractive than a others in the genus. Their white cheek becomes more solid as they mature and the orange and yellow flashes tend to be more pronounced than the white cheek. I'd choose them over a powder blue and a white cheek (nigricans).
