Hey all. I placed a BTA in my tank 10 days ago. The first night it moved behind the rocks and has been there since. It has moved 2-3 times, but all behind the rock. There is almost no light back where it is. Yesterday I noticed that the mouth was open and it had a small string of brown slime coming out of it. After about 30 minutes, mouth closed back up and it puffed back up. This morning looking at it it looks shriveled up. Foot still looks firmly attached and the color still looks good. I am guessing it expelled some of its zooxanthellae and read that this is common when acclimating to a new tank. Should I be super worried? My plan is just to leave it be and continue to check on it. My params are all good and have been stable as well. Also just did a 10 gal watee change yesterday.

First off, how old is your tank? Next what are the exact params of your tank? Sal, alk, cal, mag, & temp? Not trying to be rude but many members here can attest we hear "my params are good" and tank has only been up a month or two. Nems need an established and stable tank, IMO at least 6-8 mos old. They're not as forgiving as fish or simple corals and we see many folks lose them.

Tank is about 2 months old. And the 6-8 month I’ve seen before, but have also seen opposing opinions on this. I wanted the anemone in early so it could move where it wanted without there being a bunch of coral around. These parameters have been the same for a month and I test a couple times a week.

Temp- 78
Sal- 1.025
Amm- 0
Trite- 0
Trate- 0
Pohs- 0.04
Calc- 515
Alk- 8
Mag- 1350
Ph- 7.98

Your #s do look good, maybe it's just getting acclimated to your lights, they tend to do that. Mine have done strange things even mature (9 years old) even a change in powerhead flow makes them curl up turn green at times etc... Just keep those #s in check and hopefully it'll settle in.

The nem is going to go where it wants. The 6 to 8 month mark people put on a nem is because they can be finicky to swings in parameters in a new tank. And have a higher mortality rate in new tanks. The difference in opinions you read are from people who rush and for the most part and never post the final outcomes to their dems due to losing them and don’t want to hear told ya so. Can it be done sure just check your numbers and keep things stable. But putting it in early and it moving is why you’ll have to deal with. Until it finds its spot. If it decides behind your rock work is where it’s happy you’ll have to replicate that environment on the front side of your rock work and disrupt where it’s at to make it move again

Tank is so very young...:( if he continues expelling zoos and moving about i would probably recommend returning and waiting a bit before trying another.
