I got a free jar of these from AlgaeBarn, and I am trying to decide if I should pour the whole thing into my 20g tank. Will these critters generally live until something eats them? Or are they all going to die and cause an ammonia spike? Or are they too small to significantly contribute to ammonia?

Unless it’s a tiny tank it shouldn’t impact ammonia. If you want the fish to have more than 1 meal, don’t pour them all in. They’ll likely get pulled out by filtration or die without an adequate food source. Btw, it is super easy to hatch your own.

I agree with rtaylor you should hatch your own on as needed basis. Those things end up in my skimmer or filter , they don’t last very long. But it’s a nice treat for the fish they seem to like it.
