live glass

The things that can be done in this hobby astound me!

Very cool.

An interesting trick I learned (i have only done with very large glass bottles but assume same laws apply) - put a knife blunt side down in the bottle and fill about 1/4 - 1/3 of the way with water. Lift it up and slam it down, on the air…not a hard surface that would just break all the glass, there should have been enough force to completely knock out the bottom of the glass. If it is like welded or whatever, it will be a clean break. Provided you can do this without having any issues, should make for a pretty cool tunnel for your fish!

Anybody have any tips for getting a little piece of glass off of the side of the bottle? I really liked the pic with the encrusting acro coming out of the side of the bottle and would like to try something similar.

Wow...that last custom piece is very nice! Looks pretty real...and I would have never thought about rinsing in the toilet bowl!

The glass that glows under black light is Uranium Doped Glass.. as for the blown out bottles, drink a beer, fill it about a quarter of the way or so with water than hit the neck with your palm hard, it blows the bottom right out.

we've actually been doing this for a while. we take nice glass pieces that are broken, sand the sharp edges and stick them in the tank! these shotsare from our old 29 gallon. sorry one's a cell phone picture! haha.

When I saw this at first I thought it was a mandarin diner! Cool idea, and could have a double purpose in the tank for training a dragonet onto prepared foods!

Next I use some salt and CC and lay down. Then some clay adding salt or sand were you want cavities. Bottle then more salt or sand. Shells, barnacles, etc. If you want a flat bottom don't put any down. Just aluminium. Foil. The clay won't stick to it.
