Live grass shrimp on eBay

I am a big chicken. I would be afraid to use them on a DT. I would try to get some additional info from them. If all they do is aquaculture shrimp you would likely be ok. Not a risk I would take personally though...

I would however if it were necessary to have them for my fish setup a tank for them. Feed them through the fallow period and then begin feeding them to my DT.

They are wild caught from Tampa Bay so not likely in a closed system with other fish. The seller said to keep them at 1.019 so slightly brackish. I don't know if there are "brackish parasites?"

SW parasites can live in 1.019 no problem.

It would have to be south of 1.009 to be clear of ich. That's a stretch for velvet.

So if you are going to put them in your tank I would hold them for a minimum of 45 days before dropping them in.

So here's how I think in general. Not everybody is like me, but this is a trend people should note.

1) The fact that you're asking means you don't know...
2) If you don't know, then it means it's not common practice.
3) If it's not common practice, there's probably a reason.

^^ That is the essential cornerstone of successful reefkeeping -- skepticism, and hesitation, based on an unwillingness to bet the farm (or tank) on a whim.

That's all I need to segregate this into the category of "Not worth the risk"/"Bad Idea".

Get silversides. Load them with various high quality pellets. All the nutrition your fish will ever need.

Wild caught has a much less chance of being infected with ich, don't you think?

Also, I'm not sure of the life cycle, but I wouldn't have many left over after a fallow period, haha.

I was basically asking if anyone had ordered from this guy before.

How do you ever learn anything if you're not willing to try something?

Keep in mind, I lost a healthy angler and lionfish within a week and the only connection was the silverslides I was feeding. Nothing is 100% safe.

I'm not saying that this is without risk, but if you want to feed live, shrimp is the way to go. Much less chance of parasites. If you feed wild caught, even less chance of parasites.

Also, FWIW I have been buying my grass shrimp from a company in Florida for the past few years. Same as this, wild caught. I've never had a problem. The only reason I am looking for a new vendor is because the last few times I bought, I had over 50% losses. I expect some loss, but I was throwing money away.
