Hey guys,

I previously had a 10 gallon nano with about 8 pounds of live rock. Just yesterday i transfered my 2 clowns and 3 coral pieces to a new 20 gallon long. Along with the livestock I added the live rock from above, the live sand from the 10, and all the water from the ten. Pretty much the only change was the increase in tank water volume. I would like to add about 12 more pounds of live rock to have more hiding spots, places to put coral, and most importantly more filtration. I would like to know the best way, if possible, to add the live rock. Thanks! A little background info on the live rock, it would be from my LFS and is kept cured in a tank full of just live rock. (Basically its a 40 gallon tank full of cured live rock) Any help is much appreciated!

If you buy that rock from a lfs I would still cure it in salt water for 2 weeks to a month with water changes. You never know what's in that live rock. Sometimes the rock looks good but a lot of times comes from broken down tanks that could have had problems and will leach. Basically quarantine new live rock.

Good cured live rock is fine to put in an established system.

I always put new live or dry rock in a bucket of discard saltwater from display with a heater and water circulation pump. I wait a couple days and test for ammonia nitrite nitrate and phosphate. If any level increases from what I keep my display at I perform water changes with discard water and wait a few days. I keep this up until all parameters are good. Dry rock always takes longer 3-6 weeks but never any hitchhikers. Live rock is much faster 3-15 days and come loaded with good and bad hitchhikers.
