I just set up a 2gal AIO tank on my desk at work with live rock and live sand, plus the purified saltwater from be lfs. I did the same with my 40gal at home. My tank at home never tested any ammonia or even nitrate in the beginning.

Do you think the 2gal will cycle?

You have to add an ammonia source, either food to break down into ammonia or straight ammonia. I use Dr. Tim's ammonia chloride to cycle my tanks.

My 2.6 gallon is in the process of a cycle as well.I used 60%new water and 40% from my Biocube 29 dry sand and A piece of live rock I picked up from work. I just started getting slight diatom 11 days in so far.I Also added filther material from my other tank to this one so probably just about two weeks for small tanks like this.
