I purchased 40 lbs of premium deco rock and mistakenly thought it would only give off a small amount of ammonia, it came up over 8 ppm the next day. so instead of refilling the 40 i filled a 20 gallon with about 15 gallons, scraped all the dead on the rock and rinsed them in a tub of salt water. day 2 i check and im only seeing 2 ppm of ammonia, my question is am i ok to go ahead and put it in the 40 assuming the ppm will drop by more than half in the tank, or will it leach out and increase over the next few days? ive never cure live rock and ive heard it takes ten days so idk

I would keep doing water changes daily to keep that ammonia down. Keeping it even at 2ppm will continue to kill off the living creatures in the rock. I would use the 20 gal until that ammonia is gone.

there's like nothing on these rocks due to 3 day shipping and after the scrape just a couple of clams and some macro algae made it, never ordering premium again, next time ill just get base coralline rock. ill do another water change today and see how it is tomorrow i suppose

Wow!
3 day shipping?
I'm guessing it's from Gulf Live Rock.
You must of gone with the free delivery to your door.
I know they have the air freight option for less die off. But it cost about $80 for up to 100 lbs.
Dont give up on there still being life in that rock. It's very benificial.
