okay guys im setting up a 24 nano but how much dry rock do I need ? and how much live rock do I need to seed the dry rock? im thinking about buying the dry rock from bulk reef supply and picking up what ever amount of live rock from my local fish store. so was wondering how much live rock and dry rock I would need? also I still have live rock from a few years ago that was in my 29 gallon tank I had at the time but wasn't sure about using it cause some of it may of gotten something on it and some had hair algae so is thre a good way to clean it back to good clean dry rock ? thanks

Im no expert, but everything I've read you should put around one pound of rock per gallon. I did the dry rock and seeding it with some rock with coralline algae on it. It worked good and the tank cycled super fast. The old live rock would be fine unless you spilled chemicals or something like that on them. Then I wouldn't use it. Boiling them would kill anything unwanted like hair algae if being out of the tank for a long time hasn't already.

At least 24lbs of whatever you get. Doesn't matter which you use, thats your choice. You could put 23lbs of dry rock and 1lb of live rock if you wanted to keep the hitch hickers to minimal.
You could use your other rock, just acid bath it first or cook it.

Thanks guys appreciate the help. I might take the rock out and boil it on the grill. im not sure still debating on what to go with.

Checkout Marco rocks they have the best dry rock imo with great prices and you don't have to cure it like you would with the BRS rock, Marco rock is clean.
