I am planning on purchasing more live rock from tampabayliverock. I had my mind set on 75 more punds added to my 50 pounds now. The more I observe the tank i am wondering if all 75 pounds will fit. My tank is a standard aqueon 55 gallon tank. I will get a fts later. Any help is appreciated.

Really like tampabayliverock, one thing to also consider is the water weight that will ship with the rock. This is a real factor depending on how porous or dense the rock is, tampabayliverock has been described as fairly porous; so a 10% - 20% or more might be water weight.

125 pounds in a 55g sounds like a lot to me. Are you planning to put all of that in the DT? Like 143MPCo said, it depends on how porous the rock is though. I have some pieces of fiji that are the size of a grapefruit, but weigh a solid 5 pounds. Then I have some that are the size of a toaster and weigh nothing.

Yes all in the DT. I do not have a sump. This is my first tank so it's simple. I was told that more rock is better but i was worried about the room in the tank.

So does this mean that I won't be getting 75 pounds but i will be getting less?

No, I was not trying to imply that at all!:)
They will weigh it, try to get it as close to what you ordered "weight wise" and ship.
Nine times out of ten, it's more than what was ordered, in favor of the customer, never otherwise.

Okay that's what I was thinking. Is 125 pounds total of live rock bad for a 55 gal?

You could always order a bit less and if needed, then order more.
The flip side to doing that is the additional cost of shipping more rock.

This is what 110 lbs of TBS rock looks like in a 65. To be honest I'm considering moving a couple rocks to the sump. I'd aim for about 90 lbs total.

Hi,

I am new to this saltwater adventure as well. One thing to think about, that I learned here on R2R is that when I was putting as much LR into my tank as well, it wasn't just about what I could fit into the tank. It was also about water flow and dead spots. So if it's helpful, keep that in mind too when planning out the extra rock. I myself found that I had some extra space, but the water flow was more important in that area...

A couple thoughts. First, is this Tampa Bay Saltwater or were you specifically saying Tampa Bay Liverock? That doesn't look like TBS which is a lot knobbier and more porous. That looks a lot more dense, which is less volume per mass. So, if this is different rock than I have, my recommendation is invalidated.

No no this is not tampabayliverock this was dry/live rock from a lfs. I planning on purchasing more rock from tampabayliverock.

Ah. Well, what you get from TBS is bigger in volume per pound. Given your existing rock is pretty dense, you might go higher and go for another 70 lbs.
